WisLUG update for August 2016

MPL2016-7The final month of summer is upon us. Don’t let those dog days of August get you down though. WisLUG has some fun stuff coming up this month!

As always, we will have our monthly meetings in Madison and Milwaukee.

-The Madison meeting is Sunday, August 14, from 1-4pm at Misty Mountain Games in Madison. Members will be participating in a builder competition. The seed part was handed out at the July meeting and completed builds should be brought to the meeting. If you could not attend and are interested in competing, contact Andrew or you can order the piece yourself off Bricklink. Max of 10 in your build, which must feature the part in a clear way (no hiding it in internal structures!)

-The Milwaukee meeting is Saturday, August 20 from 1-3:30pm at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa. We’re in room G150 in the basement! Members are also participating in a build challenge. Seed parts were handed out at the last meeting. Get in touch with Chris if you need to obtain parts to participate.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support us at the Monona Public Library in July. We had a great showing from members and lots of visitors from the public. You check out photos from the event here.

Our next public event will be at Maker Faire Milwaukee, which is being held at State Fair Park on September 24-25. Members will work shifts to cover the WisLUG area, and will bring in their work to display while they are manning the tables. More than 50,000 people attended this event last year, so be prepared to talk about your creations.

That’s all for this month. Hope to catch everyone at a meeting!

WisLUG update for July 2016

displayIt’s July already? This year has just flown by, especially with the mad scramble to get everything ready in time for Brickworld.

Speaking of which, thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event super successful for WisLUG this year. We had three members win MOC awards, another was nominated, and another took home a trophy for the mini-fig speed building competition. Whether you contributed to our builds or just stopped by to support the work of WisLUG, thank you. If you haven’t already, check out photos of the event here.

While the greatest five days in brick-based fun are over for the year, the building continues. Here’s what’s coming up for the month of July.

Looking ahead, WisLUG has been accepted to exhibit its work at Maker Faire Milwaukee, coming up September 24-25 at State Fair Park in West Allis. We will be discussing the event during upcoming meetings.

And don’t forget – WisLUG will once again be providing displays for the Olbrich Botanical Gardens Holiday Express show this year, starting in December. We have many great projects already in the works, but will need more. If you are interested in providing a build for Olbrich this year, get in touch with Andrew.

Have a great month everyone! Hope to see you at an event!

WisLUG update for June 2016

OvertureA happy June to you all and welcome to summer in Wisconsin! Be careful not to blink or you might miss it.

Please remember that WisLUG has NO monthly meetings in June, in either Madison or Milwaukee. Instead, we hope to see everyone at Brickworld, which is in Schaumburg, IL from June 15-19. If you are displaying with us, we will see you there! If you are just going to visit during one of the public days on June 18/19, be sure to stop by the WisLUG display area.

We will have our largest display ever at Brickworld this year and it appears the show will also be bigger than ever. If you are a fan of LEGO, you do not want to miss this!

We will resume our regularly scheduled meetings in July. As always, the Madison meeting is the second Sunday of the month and the Milwaukee meeting is the third Saturday of the month.

A huge thanks to everyone who stopped by to see our display at Madison’s Overture Center in May. More than 750 people came through to visit during the day, both to see our work and try some building of their own. We hope to display there again in the future!

Looking ahead, we will once again be at the Monona Public Library on July 30 from 1-4pm. We are also working on getting display space during Maker Faire Milwaukee in late September!

WisLUG update for May 2016

cakeA happy May to all and a Happy Birthday to WisLUG! This month marks the fifth anniversary of WisLUG and we will be holding plenty of activities to help celebrate the occasion.

Perhaps our biggest event will be on May 22nd, when WisLUG will be hosting a public display at Madison’s Overture Center for the Performing Arts from noon until 6pm. We will be in the Promenade Room, which is located just above the main lobby entrance of the building on the corner of State St.

Members will display a wide array of their work for the public to get a closer look at, so stop on by to see some of the many projects we have been working hard on for the past several months. We will also have a very special build activity going on during the event for the public to get involved with. Bring your family and tell your friends!

Members – get in touch with Andrew if you want to display at this event. We will begin setup at 9am that day.

There’s tons of fun to be had at our monthly meetings as well:

  • Sunday, May 8th, 1-4pm – Madison Area Meeting at Misty Mountain Games in Madison. This month is all about Minecraft! We will be drafting copies of the Minecraft set “The Cave” and doing a special Minecraft-themed building competition. Participation in the draft requires bringing your own copy of the set. There will be prizes for the build competition!
  • Saturday, May 21st, 1-3:30pm – Milwaukee Area Meeting at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa. Bring your projects for Brickworld to show off to the group.

Don’t forget that Brickworld-Chicago is coming up in less than two months. Many WisLUG members are planning to be there and we have submitted our largest space request ever for this event. Even if you are only planning to come through on the public days, make sure to stop by and see us!
